The Fish Swims in the Sea

"The fish swims in the sea, while the sea is, in a certain sense, contained within the fish. Ah, what am I to think?"  I love this quote, but I have to wonder how is this possible?  How can the world be in Jesus, but Jesus, at the same time, can be in the world?  My mind is baffled.  I guess I should not be surprised though.  John tells us "the light shines into the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it."  The truth is there are many things we do not understand about Jesus.  I'm sure the shepherds were confused.  I'm sure the three wise men were confused.  However, that small light in the sky was enough to keep them going.  A small glimmer of hope? Maybe just a small glimmer.  Nevertheless the glimmer caused gifts to be brought to a baby born in the crappiest place possible.  I'm sure Mary and Joseph were confused.  It's a boy.  Messiah (whatever that means)?  Slow down.  Let's take this one step at a time.  For now, it's just a boy.  Okay, we know he's a boy, come on, let's figure out what's going on.  Who the heck is this kid?  Why did three men travel so far to give him gifts?  Well for two thousand years that small glimmer, that small star has been growing.  Do we have the same motivation as the three wise men? What gifts have we brought Jesus? Do we understand the light yet?  Not completely, no, but at least we can be grateful that the fish is still swimming in the sea, and the sea is still contained within the fish.  Thank you Jesus for being born.
